Although water management experts are doubtful about AAP fulfilling its promise of providing 700 litres of free water per day per household, Arvind Kejriwal said it can be easily done and that too without burdening the exchequer by diverting water used for water-cannoning protesters.
“Last year, nearly 20,000 million gallons of water were used to disperse agitators. This works out to nearly three months supply of water per household that could have been put to better use such as washing clothes, taking bath, brushing teeth etc,” the firebrand civil society leader turned Delhi CM designate told The UnReal Times. Kejriwal contends that since Congress government has been wiped out and he himself won’t be leading protests any more in Delhi at least, the Delhi Jal Board won’t have to budget so much scare drinking water for dispersing agitators.
However, the Delhi police which reports to the Home Minister and not the Delhi CM, has requested the Jal Board to keep 5000 million gallons in reserve for next year for Kejriwal led agitations against the Union Government. “After he’s done with his day job of governing Delhi, Kejri sir may want to let off some steam by leading agitators to protest outside Dr. Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi’s residences. So we may still need some water for dispersing the protesters,” the Delhi police commissioner grimly noted.
