Finally, some good news for Rahul Gandhi. Delhi metropolitan judge Gomati Manocha has dropped the Nehru-Gandhi scion’s name from the list of accused in the National Herald Case after Congress lawyer Kapil Sibal very cogently argued that Rahul Gandhi was incapable of pulling off something so smart.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi had earlier been accused of sophisticated corporate malfeasance by extending a loan of Rs 90 crore from tax exempt party funds to the company that owns the now defunct newspaper, National Herald. In return, they allegedly took equity stake in the company and thereby ownership of immovable property worth Rs 5000 crore.

“To pull off such a heist requires sophisticated knowledge of corporate law, accounting, valuations and misuse of the People’s Representation Act, your honour,” pleaded Kapil Sibal. “Rahul baba is simply incapable of such level of intelligence.” Sibal went on to show footage from Rahul’s interview with Arnab Goswami to bolster his claim. Metropolitan magistrate Manocha couldn’t help but agree.

Dr Subramanian Swamy has also heaved a sigh of relief. “Truth be told, I wasn’t too keen on bringing Rahul to the witness stand. He’s an interrogator’s nightmare, answering every question with references to women’s empowerment and RTI, and if I probe too much, throwing the question right back at me with ‘let me ask you the same question. What do you think?’. I’m better off focusing only on Tadka,” Dr Swamy told The UnReal Times.
