If entering into a matrimonial alliance to forge political unity wasn’t enough, the two great Yadav satraps of the Gangetic belt, Mulayam and Lalu, have gone a step further and registered themselves as a Hindu Undivided Family (HuF) to allay fears that they may yet again go their separate ways. Accordingly, their family business political concerns, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), will get a common PAN and operate out of a common account as per the tenets of the Income Tax Act. A top chartered accountant firm has been entrusted the gargantuan task of inventorying the considerable assets and a few liabilities of the two parties under a common corpus.
“I hope there are no more doubts that we are one happy, giant, extended, undivided, Yadav, I mean, Hindu secular family,” Lalu said. Mulayam added it will be a straight fight between the Sangh Parivar and the Janata Parivar now that the Gandhi family is no longer in the reckoning.
Only Azam Khan appeared slightly perturbed over the seminal development. “I have some issues with the communal nomenclature. Wish there was a Hindustani Undivided Family clause under which the two parties could have merged. But Netaji has my assent since I too am a member of this family,” Azam sighed.
Lalu downplayed concerns that while the SP and RJD have indeed fused, other constituents like Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Secular) and Indian National Lok Dal may yet break away from the Janata Parivar – the latest attempt to bring together various secular parties with names that have ‘Janata’ or ‘Samajwadi’ or both in them on a common platform.
“I have seven daughters, only a few of whom are married. Go figure,” Lalu said.
