Mani Shankar Aiyar added to his remarks from yesterday, tearing into Christopher Columbus for discovering that benighted continent called America, which set off a chain of events leading to the present war against terror and the consequent backlash.
After expressing sadness and denouncing the horrific Chalrie Hebdo killings, Mani slammed the famous fifteenth century Italian explorer for the present turmoil. “That bloody fool set out to discover a sea route to India and instead ended up discovering that monstrosity called America. How better off the world would have been if that oaf had even the slightest sense of geography,” Mani fumed. “Well, what else you can expect from a non-Stephenian,” he added indignantly.
Mani said that the saddest day in school was when he learnt that Columbus landed on the Caribbean archipelago in 1492, paving the way for colonization of the American mainland. “History took a dark turn after that. And it was not just the war on terror that America exported to the rest of the world leading to the Charlie Hebdo shootout,” Mani recalled, now frothing at the mouth. “Hotdogs, Baseball, McDonalds and that monstrosity called American English have ensured that we have slid into cultural darkness, all because of that troglodyte,” Mani said.
“Don’t get me wrong,” Mani said, “I greatly admire Italy and Italian culture. It has produced some outstanding figures like Da Vinci, Gallileo and Sonia Gandhi. On the other hand, it has also spawned this ogre, Columbus, a far more execrable figure than even Modi,” Mani snarled.
The Congress distanced itself from Mani’s remarks. “In so far as Mani’s remarks are concerned,” Manish Tewari said, “after taking a holistic view juxtaposed with recent events, we concluded that they reflect his personal views.”
