President Obama delivered another smack down to India, this time criticizing Arvind Kejriwal for not going the distance in public display of affection for Sunita.
“I was initially elated when reports came in that Arvind, in a first for Indian politicians, had not only credited Sunita for his success but even indulged in some PDA by hugging her in full view,” Obama said during a breakfast meeting with reporters. “What’s more, Michele tells me Sunita is also an independently successful career woman who successfully balances professional and domestic obligations and will make a good FLOD (First Lady of Delhi).”
“But I’m afraid Arvind just didn’t go the required distance and I’m overall disappointed with what was on display,” Obama lectured. “I make it a point to kiss Michelle after every public rally. Arvind and Sunita also ought to hold hands more often in public, whether it is a mohalla Jan Sabha or a dharna. So Indians need to get off their high horses if they think Arvind’s romantic gesture is some kind of a coming of age of Indian politicians. Arvind, Devendra and the rest of your guys have a lot of catching up to do in this department.”
Obama’s comments have once again stunned and confused the Indian establishment with a MEA official saying: “What will it take to please this guy? Why doesn’t he save such lectures for, say, the King of Saudi Arabia?”
The White House was quick to clarify that it was in no way another parting shot to conservative elements in India. “This was simply the President of America telling Arvind how he would have expressed his gratitude to Michele were he elected the CM of Delhi,” White House press secretary John Earnest told The UnReal Times.
