The Modi government has come in for heavy criticism from liberals across the length and breadth of the country once again after Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s dog Dash passed away.
“Now not even the pets of minorities are safe in this country,” wailed Sagarika Ghose, before locking herself up in her room to pen an emotional column titled ‘How Dash was a stranger in his own country’.
Her better worse other half, Rajdeep Sardesai, took to Twitter to express his outrage. “While Namo once again reveals his insensitivity to puppies, my Nemo needs to be taken for a walk in the park! Different folks, different sensitivities! GNight!” he tweeted.
Minutes later, the hashtag #MinoritiesPetsInDanger began to trend on Twitter, right under Times Now’s hashtag #InsensitiveModi, as liberal outrage gathered momentum, suitably propelled by an online contingent of AAP supporters.
The outrage later found an echo in the parliament, as opposition parties stormed the well of the Lok Sabha early on Tuesday, demanding a CBI probe into the issue. “This issue is far more substantive than the bullshit we pulled yesterday about snooping on Rahul baba. Disruption to banta hai yaar [This deserves disruption],” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge told The UnReal Times.
JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav too slammed the government in the Upper House, albeit for a slightly different reason. “If Dash ji was fair-skinned, BJP’s ministers would have tripped over each other to enquire about his well-being, but because he had a wheatish complexion, they did not bother,” declared Yadav in Rajya Sabha, minutes before it was disrupted as well.
Meanwhile, Bollywood is abuzz with speculation over Salman Khan’s reaction to the tragic incident. All eyes are on the Dabangg star to see if he would hug and empathize with Shah Rukh Khan in his hour of grief.
