With the remake of Zanjeer starring Andhra megastar Chiranjeevi’s son, Ramcharan, displacing even Himmatwala as one of the lousiest remakes to come out of Bollywood in recent years, a highly enraged Sajid Khan has announced the decision to remake the remake of Zanjeer in a bid to reclaim the top spot. Critics have slammed the new Zanjeer, with reviews ranging from “a shameless exercise in laziness” to a “ramshackle remake”, thereby making it the second all time worst remake ever after RGV ki Aag.
Sajid Khan hopes that his remake of the remake will help him wrest the title of having made the worst movie of the decade back from Apoorva Lakhia. Khan is accordingly in talks with the Khiladi Kumar to star in the role immortalized by Big B and subsequently vandalized by Ramcharan. “I am confident that Akshay will do an even worse job than Ramcharan and help me reclaim the top spot,” Sajid told The UnReal Times.
Khan’s plans have sparked fears that this could unleash a new wave of remakes of remakes, which could spawn further remakes, making Bollywood cannibalize itself and plunge to new lows. “I just hope Ram Gopal Varma, who it seems is struggling to find inspiration, doesn’t go ahead and remake RGV ki Aag. That would be catastrophic,” said a film buff, sounding very worried.
Sajid’s announcement has added to the already high levels of frustration of youth and critics who happened to watch the new Zanjeer. “Saw so many angry young men,” tweeted a chap during the interval of the show. “Not in the movie but among the men who paid for a multiplex ticket to watch this crap.”
The Big B preferred to maintain a dignified silence after watching the remake of Zanjeer. He took to popular micro-blogging site, Twitter, to air his views: “T 1150 - just saw #Zanjeer, will not say anything BUT BEWARE SILENCE OF ANGRY OLD MAN”.
The Congress meanwhile hastened to clarify that it had no role in the making of the movie to scotch rumours that the movies was its way of getting back at Big B for starring in those ‘breathe in a bit of Gujarat’ ads at the behest of the Narendra Modi government. “Big B is not in our good books every since he became Gujarat brand ambassador but even we wouldn’t stoop so low by making a complete mockery of his classic hit Zanjeer,” Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha clarified.
