The Congress party has lambasted the Modi government for allowing Doordarshan to telecast RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s speech, and termed the move as a violation of the unwritten principles of remote control governance. “This is not how you do things,” lamented Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi, shaking his head. “Where’s the subtlety? Where’s the sophistication? The remote controller is supposed to stay in the shadows. He or she does NOT go on live television like this!”

Alvi argued that the Congress’ remote controller, Sonia Gandhi, always maintained a low profile during the UPA years. “Not that anyone watches DD, but did anyone ever notice DD telecasting speeches of Sonia ji for party related functions? No, sir. That is because Sonia ji always played a behind the scenes role, never stealing the limelight from Dr Manmohan Singh. Bar the intermittent ‘Sonia unhappy about’ plant by Ahmed Patel, one didn’t hear anything from 10, Janpath or from the Prime Minister too for that matter,” Alvi pointed out with pride.

“Agreed, confidential PMO files were ferried to 10,Janpath for madam’s perusal but it was done in a very discreet manner. She never imposed herself on the nation like this,” Alvi added.

The Congress spokesperson also downplayed the Modi regime’s Clean India campaign launched on Gandhi Jayanthi. “The BJP is trying to appropriate Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy as its own and that’s OK. But what will not be OK is if they try to appropriate Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy as well,” Alvi warned.
