After the roaring success of “Happy New Year”, director Farah Khan, SRK and the rest of the star cast of Happy New Year have come together once again to produce what seems like another mega blockbuster SRK movie. The movie, titled “SRK ka Jhadoo”, features SRK and his co-actors sweeping a street adjoining “Mannat”, SRK’s residence in Mumbai.
“Initially we thought we’d shoot it to promote Happy New Year, but after the 3 hour long video was ready, Farah Khan and Shahrukh Khan realized that the movie was considerably more original than Happy New Year, and the acting a lot more natural. So we decided to add a couple of songs and release it in theaters and multiplexes across the country in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil,” said Assistant Director Varun Lalwani.
Like any typical Farah Khan movie, the movie begins by referencing hit dialogues from SRK’s earlier hits including Happy New Year, and then steps it up a notch by referencing the references to SRK hits in the first part of the movie, and then references the references to references to… you get the idea.
The team is currently on an overdrive to promote “SRK ka jhadoo”, with SRK and Deepika putting up appearances on Comedy Nights with Kapil, a bunch of dance shows, and sundry other television shows. “Funnily we seem to have put in more time and thought in promoting the movie than in making it in the first place!” laughed Lalwani, before adding with a frown, “Wait, that’s true of any Bollywood movie.”
Critics have given a thumbs-up to the movie. Legendary film critic Taran Adarsh gave it 4.5 stars even before the team decided to turn the video into a commercial movie. Rajeev Masand too endorsed the film. “SRK plays Tango, a charming safai karamchari who sweeps the streets when not sweeping people off their feet. Deepika doesn’t have much to do other than holding a jhadoo and stand in a corner looking pretty, but she manages to look ravishing doing that. Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan and Boman play their parts well. I am going with three out of five for SRK ka Jhadoo. Eminently watchable entertainer,” Masand raved.
“SRK ka Jhadoo” has already raked in 100 crores since its release on Sunday. “Mast tha yaar!” said a gleeful fan who’d caught the first day first show in Delhi’s PVR Saket. “Shahrukh is rocking!” said another. “Dumb movie,” scoffed another movie-goer who had said the same thing for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express and a dozen other SRK movies he watched in the theaters on the day they released.
