Arvind Kejriwal has courted controversy once again. The anti-corruption crusader was spotted browsing the “End-of-Reason sale” section on Myntra’s website, and later photographed in a very compromising position of adding 20 shirts to his shopping wishlist.
Needless to say, the BJP has pounced on this development. “20 shirts? Is this how an aam aadmi behaves?” hollered BJP Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay. “He goes around calling himself the messiah of the aam aadmi and then does things like traveling in business class and splurging on shirts. He’s taking Delhi citizens for a ride!”
According to AAP insiders, Kejriwal’s act is borne out of very practical considerations. An AAP worker on the condition of anonymity denied that Arvind was splurging, and claimed that the purchase is very reasonable. “There are 40 days to the Delhi elections, correct? Now assume that Arvind gets inked once every two days, which is the bare minimum you’d expect in the final stretch to the polls, how many shirts would he need?” he challenged.
Officially, however, Kejriwal has adopted a similar stance as in the Etihad business class matter. “An aam aadmi should also be able to shop unreasonably. Just because one is an aam aadmi, he does not have the right to go crazy and buy 20 shirts?” he tweeted.
Myntra, however, is not complaining. “This is nothing. Wait until he starts buying mufflers on Jan 3rd, the day the sale begins,” said Prabal Mehta, spokesperson for Myntra. “And I hear, even Modiji has set his eyes on some amazing shawls in the same sale. Sab mile huen hai ji,” he winked.
